HISTORY OF PODCAST BOOTCAMP

The debut Podcast Bootcamp launched at KCRW, NPR’s flagship station in Los Angeles. Held virtually over three days, podcasters got inspired by podcaster Van Lathan (formerly of TMZ), LA’s own Baka Boyz & iHearts’ Chuck Dizzle. They were taught production and scriptwriting by USC professors and hosting skills by industry legend Pat Prescott. KCRW’s top-notch producers led the participants in organizing their demos. Then they pitched before the founders of Gimlet and Wondery podcast networks and celebrity manager Rushion McDonald. Everyone walked away inspired with newfound professional and personal contacts. The event was fully sponsored by KCRW and free to participants.

WHO TEACHES PODCAST BOOTCAMP?

The instructors for the Bootcamps are established podcasters. There are also celebrity radio personalities who come in as guest instructors. The podcasting curriculum used for this course was developed at the University of Southern California and is currently being used at the Academy of Radio and TV Broadcasting in Huntington Beach, CA.
